Cedric Michael Cox
Today we had a guest speaker in class, Cedric Michael Cox. I had actually never heard of him before, but when he showed his work on the screen, I loved it.
"Cedric Michael Cox is best known for his paintings and drawings, which fall between surrealism and representational abstraction. His work expresses themes ranging from mythical literature to the relationships between the physical body, musical allegories, and natural and man-made landscapes." During his visit, he spoke to us about how it is to be an independent artist, and how he came about it. He has worked hard to get to where he is today, but also let us know that networking is crucial in the art world. Sometimes just knowing someone can help open doors for you that may have otherwise remained closed, or may not have opened for a longer period of time. He spoke about criticism and how it is something you have to just take and move on from. As an artist, if negative feedback sticks with you and you don't let it go, it will have a negative effect on both you and your work.
When you get a chance, go to his website and check out his beautiful work:
