Get to know the newest member of my Blobbiverse

Queen OTB

On the board, there are 32 pieces.
Each with their own abilities and limitations.
All coordinating with the goal of taking down the opposing King while protecting their own.

Then there’s the piece right next to the King: the Queen. Queen: Of The Board.

With the reach and ability to move as she wants. Except for an L shape. That bit of weirdness belongs solely to Mr. Knight.

Fiercely protected by some.
Easily sacrificed by others.
Regardless, she’s the one everyone keeps their eyes on.

Even that in itself can be detrimental to the opposing side. She could be a ruse. A distraction. A magician’s assistant wonderfully waving their arms, getting you to look over here while a rook makes its way up the back rank.

Whether a distraction or an assailant, you can’t always know. Every time those beautiful 64 squares reset, it’s a new playing field.

During the cerebral battle on those squares, what’s happening on the board is not the only thing that matters. Feeling out the position and seeing how important the Queen is to your opponent can be just as telling.

And there are always little moves that give it away.

By then, you’ve been busy keeping up with the Queen and her dance.
Too distracted to realize you’re forked.

Ultimately, while she is the regal queen, sometimes she’s just another pawn in the plan.

But a passed pawn has queenly potential.

And that… that’s a story for another piece.

Big Artist Energy

If this is a Blobby portrait of me in the studio, of a portrait of me in the studio, is that inception? Regardless, that’s what it is.

In the original portrait, I am standing in my old studio in front of my easel, with my cart of art supplies and my beautiful wall of Blobbies behind me. Here, I used words rather than exact depictions of the artwork in the background. Yum, for the foods that are always showing up in my work. Surreal, not to be mistaken for a breakfast treat. WIP, as we are all works in progress. Tato, because if you know me, and you know Blobby, then you know…

Deep and Silly, as my practice has shown me that seriousness and silliness are not mutually exclusive.

And of course, Fam, along with certain initials, to represent my biggest sources of support and inspiration.

It’s giving Big Artist Energy.
