Progress/how to of my "If You Love Me You Will" piece.
My chair is designed with the pressure that is put on people to buy an expensive diamond ring in order to show their love for someone. In our society, how much you love the person you propose to is often measured by how big the "rock" on the ring is. The chair is painted to look like a rock to represent the "rock" in an expensive ring. The dots are painted in "Tiffany Blue" to represent the countless people who are made to believe that they have to spend so much if they truly love someone.
This chair was built for our space studio. After we completed it, we had the option to change it in whatever way we wanted, so that we could enter it into a show. For mine, I did a few simple things. Here's how I did it:
1. I added a black base coat (I used spray paint since it gave the best coverage for every crevice)
2. I purchased a spray paint that makes items look like they are made of stone and gave my chair a few layers of that until I was happy with it
3. Waited for all of those layers to dry...
4. Mixed my "Tiffany Blue" color while the layers dried.
5. I proceeded to paint little dots by hand, to accent the sides.
6. Hand paint little dots for a couple of hours...
7. Let dots dry.
8. Once everything was dry, I gave my chair a few coats of Mod Podge to give it a nice, glossy look.
