This piece, a self-portrait of Kena, reflects the struggle and triumph of a nearly five-year journey to expand her family, marked by physical and emotional challenges. Three small bandages on Blobby’s belly symbolize the scars left by a life-altering surgery to treat stage 4 endometriosis, a critical step in overcoming obstacles to bring her second child into the world.

A butterfly-shaped void near the neck symbolizes the artist’s battles with Hashimoto’s and thyroid imbalances, as well as the transformation and beauty that emerge through change. The thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland, and the butterfly itself both represent the resilience and growth forged in the face of struggle—quiet challenges that have had a profound hand in shaping her path.
